1991
Between 1991 and 1996, global exports of chiefly wool woven outerwear from all Central and Eastern European countries rose by 89% - from 23 million kg to 43 million kg. Australia is the world’s biggest producer and main source of apparel wools entering international trade channels.
1991
The Government orders suspension of RPS purchasing operations in February.
1993
AWRAP established in December under the Australian Wool Research and Promotion Act 1993.
1998
The official opening of the International Wool Secretariat's European Research Centre in Italy, reflecting Italy's central importance as a market for Australian wool.
2000
Wool moves into the active and leisurewear arena, with the launch of Sportwool™ in partnership with the world renowned football club Manchester United.
2001
Australian Wool Services Limited (AWS) was established. One subsidiary known as The Woolmark Company, involving the commercial development of the Woolmark and its sub-brands. The other subsidiary known as Australian Wool Innovation Limited managing the proceeds from the wool levy and R&D and intellectual property management.
2003
The wool processing industries in all western countries were challenged by China, the emerging manufacturing giant. China was now the largest processor of Australian wool.
2006
For the second year in a row, Wild Oats takes line honours in the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race, Wild Oats cruises into Hobart with all crew members dressed by iconic Australian label Driza-Bone’s 100% Australian Merino wool jersey, chosen for its quick dry and natural moisture management properties.
2007
We celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the beginning of trade for the Australian wool industry.
